Frequently asked questions

General

What is SpaySecure?

SpaySecure is a platform for breeding programs that sell pets intact with post-sale sterilization requirements. We handle contracts, reminders, proof collection, and compliance tracking so you don't have to chase pet owners months after the sale.

Why would I use SpaySecure instead of just spaying/neutering before sale?

More vets now recommend waiting until physical maturity before sterilization. Better joint development, reduced cancer risk, better long-term health. But selling intact means trusting pet owners to follow through. SpaySecure makes that trust enforceable.

Who is SpaySecure for?

Dog and cat breeding programs that sell pets with spay/neuter requirements, from a few litters a year to larger operations.

Is SpaySecure only for dogs?

No. We work with dogs, cats, and other companion animals.

How much does SpaySecure cost?

There are no sign-on fees and no required subscription. You pay a flat fee for each puppy or kitten you sign up: $59.99 USD, $79.99 CAD, or $119.99 AUD. See our Pricing page for what's included.

Do you work internationally?

SpaySecure offers full sterilization agreement services (contracts, enforcement, compliance tracking) in the United States, Canada, and Australia. If you're outside those countries, we can provide some services - contact us for more information.

Contracts & Legal

Are the contracts legally enforceable?

Yes. Our sterilization agreements are designed for enforceability. Since 2019, we've served thousands of pet owners, and our contracts have held up when challenged - including arbitration orders confirmed in court.

Are electronic signatures legally binding?

Yes. Electronic signatures are legally binding under the ESIGN Act (US) and similar laws. SpaySecure keeps a complete audit trail with timestamps, IP addresses, and signature records.

What happens if a pet owner doesn't comply?

Most pet owners comply when they receive professional reminders and follow-up. For the small percentage who refuse, our enforcement team handles professional escalation on your behalf. We document everything, pursue the remedies specified in your contract, and keep you informed throughout the process.

How does SpaySecure enforce my rights?

The agreement is between the pet owner, the breeder, and SpaySecure, and failing to sterilize the pet by the deadline is a breach of contract. SpaySecure can seek remedies for breach through binding arbitration, and arbitration awards can be confirmed and enforced by the courts.

A huge benefit of SpaySecure is that we're not you. We're a professional, established company whose purpose is to enforce sterilization contracts. You never have to chase anyone down: you stay on your customer's side, working with them to meet their agreement with us.

What is the non-compliance database?

SpaySecure maintains a screened registry of pet owners who have breached sterilization contracts in the past. If you send a contract to someone with a match in the registry, we warn you before it goes out. Every signup strengthens the network of spay/neuter responsibility.

Can I cancel or void a contract after it's signed?

Yes. From your dashboard, you can mark contracts as void or cancelled. This stops all reminders and closes the compliance tracking. Useful if a pet owner returns the pet or if special circumstances arise.

How It Works

How does deadline tracking work?

You set the sterilization deadline for the pet's age of appropriate development. SpaySecure tracks it and sends reminders to pet owners as the deadline approaches. You receive notifications about upcoming and overdue contracts.

How do pet owners submit proof?

Pet owners get an email with a link to upload vet records, certificates, or photos. No account required on their end - they just click the link and upload their documentation.

What counts as valid proof?

We ask for a sterilization certificate with identifying information we can use to confirm the pet's identity, along with the invoice. SpaySecure provides our own vet attestation form to pet owners, and we ask them to have their vet fill it out.

Can pet owners request deadline extensions?

Yes. Pet owners can request an extension through the portal on medical grounds, with documentation from their vet. A pet owner who just needs a little more time is asked to book the soonest available appointment instead. Approved extensions update the deadline and reminder schedule.

Do I need to create an account?

No. You can sign contracts and submit proof through email links. No account or app download required.

What if I need more time?

You can request a deadline extension through the portal on medical grounds, such as your vet advising a delay.
